2025: A PBF Year in Review

As we head into the summer season at the PBF, we’re pausing to take a breath and look back on 2025: a whirlwind of a year!

Breaking it down by  numbers, we’re grateful for the 23 artists-in-residence that we welcomed into the studios and for the 36 events they helped us host, reaching over 680 in our community. In addition, we are proud to have partnered with 12 different local organizations:  AIDS Response Effort, ARE’s R.I.S.E. Center, Evans Home for Children, Friends of Old Town, Handley Regional Library, Laurel Ridge Community College, Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, Shenandoah University, Winchester Area SPCA, Winchester Book Gallery, Typewriter Studios, and 1455 Literary Arts. The Marion Park Lewis Foundation for the Arts returned as our sponsor for our event season and we are so grateful for their help in keeping our events low cost and free!

In addition to our artist-in-residence led events, we were excited to host a few special events with some friends in the community:
  • In April, Executive Director Katie Mooney Buzby and former Artist-in-Residence, cartoonist, and Board Member Robin Ha were in conversation with Sean Murphy at the Center for Story at Shenandoah University, discussing the power of collaboration within the arts community
  • At Kidzfest hosted by Friends of Old Town on the Walking Mall in June, we participated with a craft table led by artist Coriander Woodruff, helping kids making pipecleaner fairies and sprites
  • In July, we hosted our annual PAWcasso event with the Winchester Area SPCA, sponsored by Six Star Events, creating art work for auction to support the WASPCA’s PAWcasso art exhibition!

Behind the scenes, we kept busy as well. With the help of Jill Savory of Typewriter Studios and our local board members, pieces from Dr. Bullough’s collection were curated and then hung on the walls. For the first time since renovations on the resident house began in 2021, there is artwork on the walls! We also hosted our very first intern, Colin Wilt, who helped us catch up on a backlog of archive updates and library maintenance, as well as prepping our social media for the coming year. VDA Painting Concepts repainted the exterior of 120 W Cork - the first coat of fresh paint it received in 16 years - and helped us keep the building in good repair. We’re so pleased with the wonderful job they did. At the end of the year, we celebrated the auction of some of Dr. Bullough's estate with Headley's Auctions, giving new life to pieces that were not an integral part of the PBF's collection. With everything going on, we are very grateful to Jill Savory for lending a hand - she helped keep us on track while Katie was out on parental leave in the fall.

Below are all 36 events that took place over the course of the last year - we hope you'll join us for more in 2026!
