It’s summer in the Shenandoah Valley and that means it’s time to welcome three new artists to the Peter Bullough Foundation for our local summer residency program. Each year for the past six years, we have invited artists living in a 30 mile radius of the PBF to apply to work in our studios for the summer and each year, we are amazed by the caliber of work of the artists who apply. We’re exceptionally pleased to welcome local residents Clara Schulte, Sarah Tollok, and Jane Tseng to the studios for the summer!

Clara Schulte is a weaver residing in downtown Winchester. She focuses her craft on the marriage of traditional Appalachian overshot and natural fibers to create timeless and functional homegoods. In her spare time, Clara also works at ShenArts.

Sarah Tollok, an avid garden creator in addition to being an author, lives with her family in the Valley. You can find her work in anthologies with Improbable Press, Alan Squire Publishing, Clan Destine Press, Memento Vivere Press, and Chaos and Ink Books. In 2024, Sarah released Bookstories, her love letter to the world of books, with Balance of Seven Press.

Finally, our last resident Jane Tseng is a Hakka Taiwanese American ceramicist drawing from her surroundings and childhood home in the Shenandoah Valley to create hand-drawn narratives on wheel-thrown and handbuilt clay objects. A long-time PBF workshop-goer, we’re excited to have Jane inhabit a studio herself!

This summer, these artists will use the studios to expand on existing projects and explore new ideas. We can’t wait to share with you what they come up with. We hope to see you at our annual Summer Open Studio on Thursday, August 6!
