About the Event

Love art? Love animals? Join us for a unique event that celebrates both! The Peter Bullough Foundation is thrilled to be partnering with the Winchester Area SPCA on an art workshop on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 5:30-7:30pm. Instructed by talented summer artist-in-residence Shelby Hubbard, attendees will create their own “Pawcasso” pieces using sheets of watercolor paper that shelter pets have left their paw prints on (see the image above for an example). Finished pieces from the workshop will be given to the WASPCA, matted and framed, and auctioned off at the WASPCA’s annual Chairity Brunch. Pizza will be provided for this workshop.

The late Dr. Bullough referred to Chip, his rescue Havanese pup, as the love of his life; we hope you’ll join us in honor of the loving animals in your life and at the WASPCA! All ticket sales will go toward the WASPCA.

Events this season are sponsored by First Bank and the Marion Park Lewis Foundation for the Arts.

About the Artist

Shelby Hubbard is a sewist, sculptor, and writer. She was born and raised across the rural and urban South. Hubbard is reexamining her familial and intimate relationships through the tools and aesthetics of their girlhood and adolescence to better understand the short- and long-term impacts of trauma on their brain and body. Hubbard uses fabric, textiles, sewing, and paper mâché to bring these impacts into physical reality. Play, tactile exploration, craft skills, and therapeutic practices are processes to explore and negotiate with their experiences. Motivated by curiosity, Hubbard traverses the inner landscape to better reach the true self, the nuance of tangled relationships, language around trauma, family history, radical empathy, and memory.
