About the Event

Join us on Thursday October 15 for a jazz and poetry in the gardens of the Peter Bullough Foundation. We've gathered together some of our favorite local poets: executive director of 1455 Literary Arts and author Sean Murphy, former PBF artist-in-residence and Walking Mall Poet Joseph Jablonski, and author and educator Wayne David Hubbard for an unmissable evening.

The night will begin with jazz and light refreshments with the garden gate opening at 5pm. Readings will begin just after 5:45pm. This event is free thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Marion Park Lewis Foundation for the Arts.

About the Poets

Sean Murphy is the founder of the non-profit 1455 Literary Arts and directs the Center for Story at Shenandoah University. He is the author of four poetry collections—The Blackened Blues (2021), Rhapsodies in Blue (2023), Kinds of Blue (2024), and Red, White, and Blues (2026). The short fiction collection This Kind of Man published in 2024, and his memoir, Please Talk About Me When I'm Gone, won Memoir Magazine’s 2022 Memoir Prize. He has been nominated four times for the Pushcart Prize and twice for Best of the Net. Murphy also hosts the podcast and Substack Some Things Considered, where he interviews best-selling authors, acclaimed critics, and celebrated musicians. For more writing—including essays, interviews, poetry, and cultural commentary—visit seanmurphy.net or follow him on Twitter/X @bullmurph.

Wayne David Hubbard is a writer and systems thinker whose work explores the intersection of science, culture, and human experience. His perspective is shaped by a life that moves across disciplines—structured systems, creative expression, and education—bringing a unique lens to how we understand the world and ourselves.
Through writing, teaching, and conversation, he invites others to think more deeply, observe more carefully, and engage more meaningfully.

Joseph M. Jablonski is the typewriting street poet of Winchester, Virginia, known as the "Walking Mall Poet," and is the owner-operator of With Ink: Typewriter Poetry, providing poetic entertainment to events throughout the country. In addition to being published in numerous literary journals and running a writers group at his church, he has also been an artist-in-residence at the Peter Bullough Foundation and volunteers currently as the Northwest Region Vice President for the Poetry Society of Virginia.  When not writing, Joseph works in the social care landscape, developing solutions to help connect clients to life-saving social needs, and lives with his wife and children in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
