About the Event

Join us on September 12 from 5:30-7:30pm and make your very own pinhole camera! Led by artist-in-residence Sarah Thompson, attendees will first learn about the steps Thompson takes to create cameras and process images. Then, participants will be instructed on how to create their own pinhole camera from common items, which they will then be able to take home. Pizza will be provided!

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own shoe boxes, cookie tins, or other similar items to create cameras! The PBF will provide all other materials. This event has been graciously sponsored by First Bank and the Marion Park Lewis Foundation for the Arts

Though not required, Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in Thompson's "Light and Time" project by placing their camera at a location meaningful to them. Attendees may return to the PBF the following week on September 18 and Thompson will assist them in processing images from their pinhole camera.

About the Artist

Virginia-based sculpture artist, Sarah Thompson (b.1975), is a fine craft, assemblage, and experimental photography artist who uses wood, metal, found objects, and fibers to create narrative sculptures that explore memory and resiliency.  She received her BFA in 3D Media and Material Studies from Old Dominion University. Thompson first honed her welding skills as a vehicle body mechanic in the United States Air Force, where she served for eight years. After separating from Active Duty in 2010, she opened a reclaimed wood and salvaged metal art business, and in 2017 she began pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Old Dominion University with a concentration in 3D Media and Material Studies. Thompson has received numerous awards and appeared in juried exhibitions throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
